1. User Categories
a. Students
2. Description and Examples of Acceptable Use
a. Students may email other students or staff within the school and other locations.
b. Students may access sources of information for academic purposes.
c. Students may send and receive electronic files for academic purposes.
d. Students may upload information to share with other individuals for academic purposes.
e. Students may access appropriate social networking information for academic purposes (this will require a one hour training within the computer lab each year).
3. Description and Examples of Unacceptable Uses
a. Students may not use the Internet and other technology resources without proper authorization or for purposes other than school related instructional activities or research.
b. Students may not use the Internet, the school’s e-mail system or any other school technology to access, review, upload, download, store, print, post or distribute materials which are inappropriate in an educational setting.
c. Students may not violate copyright laws and/or plagiarism. This includes, but is not limited to: downloading, exchanging or making illegal copies of copyrighted or pirated software.
d. Students may not interfere with the integrity of the schools network system or any other system.
e. Students may not attempt or aid others in attempting to exceed authorized access to restricted or protected programs, files, data, computers, or network resources.
f. Students may not damage, deface or steal any part of the computer hardware, software or the network.
4. Privacy Concerns
a. It is highly recommended that a student never agrees to meet anyone they have contacted online unless specifically approved by their parent/guardian. Their parent/guardian should accompany them.
b. Students should immediately disclose to their parent, guardian, teacher or another staff member any message they receive which is inappropriate or makes them feel uncomfortable.
5. Agreement form to be signed by parents and students/users
a. Students who have not returned an Acceptable Use Policy permission form signed by their parent or legal guardian will not have independent use of the computers, networks, or Internet and will not have school-provided e-mail services.

I understand that some material on the World Wide Web may be objectionable and that, although every attempt is made to block blatantly objectionable sites, my son/daughter may be exposed to some of these sites. I agree to accept the responsibility for guiding my child and for conveying to him/her the appropriate standards for selecting, sharing, and/or exploring information and media.
